Students at our school have the option to participate in bi-annual music recitals – an opportunity that allows them to perform in front of guests and fellow students. Both the Summer and Winter recitals are cost-free for guests, only 5$ for participants and are conveniently located at a local church.
Family and friends get to witness proud students of all ages and levels demonstrating their progress, often after years of attendance at out school. This is also an excellent chance for young students to practice performing in front of a larger audience, and work on alleviating stage fright.
Some years at our music recitals, we have the pleasure of welcoming Kira Oujonkova, a professional photographer, to our recitals. See her accounts of the 2011 Summer and 2011 Winter Recitals.
Videos from our recitals can be found on the Students page.
The teachers at Lynn Valley Music consist of incredibly talented people that are not only exceptional musicians, but also multi-lingual and culturally knowledgeable.
Especially convenient for immigrants that are concerned with language barriers for their children and themselves, our teachers provide the comfort of language fluency, as well as an understanding of cultural differences.
We currently have teachers that speak in Spanish, Russian, Farsi, Japanese, Mandarin, and Hokkien, and of course – all are fluent in English.
This option is potentially limited by the instruments taught, and language spoken by each particular teacher.
Many of our clients choose to prepare for the Royal Conservatory of Music examinations, which measure the students ability via levels 1 through 10.
From years of experience, we have seen that preparation for RCM examinations ensures steady progress for the student, as well as discipline. Over all technique is improved, as students are more goal oriented and gain motivation from the expectation that any exercise may be tested in the future.
The completion of higher levels of RCM examinations is recognized by credit towards secondary school graduation, and is considered a great step towards playing music professionally and/or academically.
If you would like to find out more about RCM examinations, please visit their website, or contact us.
Along with lesson frequency, we also allow you to choose whether you would like to attend a 30 minute, 45 minute, or a 1 hour long lesson.
The shorter lessons provide focused instruction for younger children, as their attention spans tend to be limited.
The longer lessons offer an in depth lesson, with more practice and attention to mistakes and further improvement. Some parents also find them most convenient when running errands near by. We recommend a minimum of an hour a week spent with the teacher to ensure steady progress and personal commitment by the student.
The tuition rates for longer lessons make for a better deal.
Our studio is conveniently located in the heart of Lynn Valley, North Vancouver, across the road from Lynn Valley Center. We offer 5 separate rooms within which we provide private and semi-private lessons, along with a cozy waiting room for the family’s convenience.
If you are finding it difficult to make time for the drive out to our studio (who isn’t extremely busy in this hectic city of ours?), we also offer lessons at your home. This is the most convenient choice for some families. However, because of the travel time used by the teacher, this option is only available for lessons that are a minimum of 45 minutes long.*
*Please contact us directly if you are interested in the Home Lessons option.
Private lessons are the most popular choice among our clients. One-on-one lessons with our teachers ensure that students get the personal attention they need, and lessons are customized to the individual’s interests and goals. Teachers and students alike see the best progress with this option.
We also offer semi-private lessons, where a student may choose to learn with a friend at the same performing level. The students can benefit from each others enthusiasm, and share their learning experiences.
Please see our Tuition Rates for a cost comparison between the two options.
