After graduating from the Capilano University Jazz Studies program, Alexei went on to acquire his Degree in Secondary Education at UBC. During his studies, he had the privilege of playing with, and learning from wonderful classical and jazz percussionists, such as Graham Boyle, Blaine Wikjord and Dave Robbins.

Alexei has been a part of the Lynn Valley Music team for over five years. He encourages his students to find the same passion for music as he acquired when he was only 14 years old.

I think that music is of paramount importance for the overall development of an individual. Music has elements of math that requires logical thinking, and at the same time it’s a creative process. It also takes team effort to play in an ensemble; not to mention how much discipline is needed to master an instrument!
Fluent in English and Russian, he provides students with the option of learning in their first language. Alexei loves listening to anything that inspires him, and searches to find each student’s personal inspiration in music, through percussion and the guitar.

Some students are truly creative - I always feel inspired when I see kids who are keen to learn new things, and come up with their own ideas on the instrument.
As a performer, Alexei has worked with various jazz combos and concert bands. On several occasions, he has represented Canada during international military festivals with the 15th Field Artillery Band.

Presently, Alexei works as a band teacher, private instructor at Lynn Valley Music and a freelance musician. In his spare time, he enjoys spending time with family and friends, practicing, running, reading, hiking and generally staying active.
